585 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena 91101
From 210 freeway, off at Lake Street, south to Colorado Blvd. Turn right on Colorado Blvd. 4 blocks to Madison. Turn right on Madison. The parking lot directly behind the church charges $2 or $3. For free parking continue on Madison, cross Union and the church parking lot is on the left. Walk back thru the church buildings, to the front of the church. We are upstairs in room 203. There is an elevator.
We are pleased to have the owner of the South Pasadena Garlic Jim’s store joining us for this meeting. Come and meet the owner Marie Kang. Marie will be bringing her famous Gluten Free pizza for all to taste. She will also bring coupons for everyone who is at the meeting. Remember that Garlic Jim’s delivers. Garlic Jim’s is proud to be the first pizza chain accredited for Gluten Free Pizza! Look at their web site, garlicjims.com.
410 degrees is the temperature at which gluten free cookies are baked. 410 Degrees is also the name of a new company. 410 Degrees will also give you the ultimate cookie experience when you place a cookie order. You can create your own individual gluten free cookies. (Gluten Free cookies can be customized to your wildest ideas). These very nice young owners, Adam Koven and Derek Jaeger are extremely passionate about food and absolutely addicted to cookies. They are out to please their customers and to change the image of GF cookies. My favorite cookies were Rosemary and Red Velvet. Come taste these new 410 Degrees cookies. Deb Wheaton will give a cooking demo showing us how to deep fry with Gluten Free batter, called Choice Batter. With this new fantastic product you can fry onion rings, chicken nuggets, vegetables, shrimp, fish or fruit for dessert. Come sample it all.
Have you heard of JoSef Gluten Free Products? They have 3 flavors of O’s, 2 flavors of Animal Cookies and 3 flavors of cookie squares. They are already carried by Whole Foods. Come sample these cookies. Look at their web site josefsglutenfree.com.
Please remember to bring a GF dish to share after the meeting for lunch. Please bring 25 copies of the recipe or the package you made your dish from. This way everyone can see if the dish contains ingredients they could be allergic to and you are also sharing your recipe with other celiacs.
Remember our wonderful gluten Free Raffle. We can not say raffle “basket” any longer. All the items would never fit into a basket. If you have anything you would like to donate to our raffle basket, please do so. There is already bread mixes, cookies and crackers. We sell raffle tickets for: 1 for $1 or 10 for $5. All raffle players receive prizes.
Meeting dates to put on your calendar: April 17th, May 15th, June 19th, July 17th. Our meetings are always on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Saturday, May 15th will be The Celiac Disease Foundations Annual Meeting in downtown LA. Invitations will be coming out soon. There will be over 55 vendors and the speakers this year are again outstanding. From an educational stand point, no one should miss this day. Be sure to put this day on your calendar. February CDF Celiac Support Group Meeting
Date- Saturday, February 20, 2010
Time- 10:30a.m. to 12:30p.m.
Place- San Dimas Community Hospital
1350 W. Covina Blvd., Dan Dimas
From 210 freeway, go east to the 57, turning south onto the 57.
From 10 freeway, go east to the 57, turning north onto the 57.
Exit the 57 freeway at Covina Blvd. Turn left onto Covina Blvd. Continue on Covina Blvd. until you see a large Hospital on your left. Walk towards the front door and look for Celiac signs.
Deb Wheaton will give a cooking demonstration using a new product “Choice Batter”. The manufacture says with Choice Batter you can deep fry onion rings, most vegetables, chicken strips, shrimp, fish and apple rings and pear slices for dessert. Most foods can be fried. There will also be many products to sample from Authentic Foods, Katz Gluten Free and Edward and sons. Go to each of their web sites and see what products you might be interested in sampling. These are all excellent GF companies.

We will be tasting samples all morning before lunch ,so be creative while bring salads, vegetables, meat dishes, etc. Please bring 25 copies of the recipe or the package you made your dish from. Saturday, May 15th will be The Celiac Disease Foundations Annual Meeting in downtown LA. Go to celiac.org to register. There will be over 60 vendors you can talk to and sample from all day. The speakers will be Dr. Peter Green, Director of the CD center at Columbia U. and author, Dr. Sheila Crowe, Professor of Medicine, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, expert on CD and author, Shelly Case, international nutritionist expert on CD & GF diet and author, Ann Lee, Registered Dietician, with Schare, was with Dr. Green and author. The speakers are outstanding. Books will be available for signing. From an educational stand point, no one should miss this day. Be sure to put this conference on your calendar.

November CDF Support Group Meeting

We will have 2 vendors at this meeting, Simply Gluten Free and Tia’s Bakery. We hope you can join us for this fun and busy meeting. Paul from Tia’s Bakery will again be being delicious samples for everyone. For 15 years Marilyn was a professional baker and then learned that she was celiac. They make fantastic cakes, wedding cakes, brownies, pies and cookies. What is so special about this bakery, is everything is sugar and wheat free and their products have protein and fiber in each bite. Everything is also delicious. Products will be for sale.
Our other vendor is Jean Gordon and Debbie Sipos from Simple Gluten Free in Thousand Oaks. They will be telling us how they started Simple Gluten Free, what their first GF adventure was, the most popular items they sell and how many loaves of Udi’s bread they sell a week. They will also be bring their store to us!!! They will be traveling with many boxes and coolers. Check out the stores web site or call them and then call or email me with what you would like to buy from them. My order will be wonderful donut holes and from Udi:’, 3 loaves of bread, a pizza crust and muffins. I will let them know what everyone wants to buy.

October CDF Celiac Support Meeting

From 210 freeway, off at Irwindale going south, (Irwindale becomes Sunset), turn left onto San Bernardino.
From 10 freeway, off at Sunset going north, turn right onto San Bernardino.
Avolio Restaurant is between Sunset and Vincent.
Our October meeting will be a lunch at Avolio’s Italian Restaurant in Covina.
This is a small family owned restaurant and it is co-owned by Darlene Avolio, who is also the chef. Darlene’s closest friend was just diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Darlene knows very little about Celiac but wants to learn more. She does not put flour in her Alfredo or other pasta sauces and makes everything from scratch.
Darlene has a very extensive and reasonable priced menu. She serves appetizers, wonderful specialty dishes, and includes lunch and dinner. The entries can be Chicken, Beef, Veal or Sea Food. Lynne will be baking and bringing Italian bread for dipping, and bringing fettuccine, Spaghetti and penne, for your dinner enjoyment. Darlene will be serving free Flan or rice pudding for Dessert. Bring all your questions you may have about CD, diet, foods, laws, stores, cooking, etc. With help from everyone, we hope all questions will be answered. Plan to share any new information you may have about stores, merchandise or new cooking tips. Hopefully we will have gene tests available. And remember our wonderful Raffle Basket.
