Fresh-made French fries in dedicated (no gluten) oil. Ask for burger wrapped in lettuce (no bun).

Thai Restaurants

Any Thai Restaurant without Chinese or Japanese food on the menu will likely accommodate you easily.

Oaxacan Restaurants

Oaxacan food (Mexican food from the region of Oaxaca) is often made from scratch. As with any restaurant that serves sauces and salsas, ask if flour is used in the sauce/salsa/mole. Also ask if the oil for chips is also used to fry foods that contain flour.

For grilled food. Even the steak potatoes are grilled (not fried).

Café Pinot, near Library

Small servings but elegant patio. The chef came out to the table to discuss menu.

Ciao Trattoria, 7th and Flower

Very knowledgeable and accommodating staff. Oven-cooked potatoes without dairy.

Cuidad, Figueroa

Another nice patio. Ask a lot of questions, though.

Los Feliz/Silverlake/Echo Park

Organic food. They know what’s in their food and the chef is knowledgeable about food intolerances. 323-667-1357

Everything is gluten-free, even the muffins. Avoid the smoked fish, that’s about it. Complete salad bar and then the Churrascaria part, waiters come around and cut slices of the greatest meat. You can eat too much food. The salad part is $25 and the churrascaria part is additional $25 or so. Very delicious!

Bombay Bite, 1051 Gayley Ave., Westwood Village across from Whole Foods

The dinner menu indicates which lamb, beef, seafood and vegetarian entrees are GF. For a lunch entrée (even on Sat/Sun!), forget the tandoori and chicken curries. Ask about any salad, starter, tandoori, wrap or special. They are interested in all your food sensitivities. 310-824-1046.

I order the ½ rack of ribs without the (questionable) sauce and the squash (garlic) when with folks I know well. (They are eating large but tidy sandwiches.) –Mary
